First tip on fuel saving -
Only buy or fill up your car or bike in the
early morning when the ground temperature is still cold. Remember that
all service stations have their storage tanks buried below ground. The
colder the ground the more dense the fuel, when it gets warmer petrol
expands, so buying in the afternoon or in the evening….your liter is not
exactly a liter.
In the petroleum business,
the specific gravity and the temperature of the petrol, diesel and jet fuel,
ethanol and other petroleum products plays an important role. A 1-degree
rise in temperature is a big deal for this business. But the service
stations do not have temperature compensation at the pumps. So cold temperature save fuel.
Secon tip of fuel saving is -
When you’re filling up do not squeeze the trigger of the nozzle to a fast
mode. If you look you will see that the trigger has three (3) stages: low,
middle, and high. In slow mode you should be pumping on low speed, thereby
minimizing the vapours that are created while
you are pumping. All hoses at the pump have a vapour return. If you are pumping
on the fast rate, some of the liquid that goes to your tank becomes vapour.
Those vapours are being sucked up and back into the underground storage tank so
you’re getting less worth for your money. So to save money on fuel fill it slowly
One of the most important fuel saving tips is to fill up when your tank
is HALF FULL. The reason for this is, the more fuel you have in your tank
the less air occupying its empty space. Petrol evaporates faster than you
can imagine. Petroleum storage tanks have an internal floating roof. This
roof serves as zero clearance between the petrol and the atmosphere, so it
minimizes the evaporation. Unlike service stations, here where I work, every
truck that we load is temperature compensated so that every litre is
actually the exact amount.
Another reminder to save your fuel, if there is a fuel truck pumping into the storage tanks
when you stop to buy, DO NOT fill up most likely the petrol or diesel is being
stirred up as the fuel is being delivered, and you might pick up some of the
dirt that normally settles on the bottom.
Owners of diesel engine vehicles will pay cheaper road tax under Budget 2009. From Monday, the road tax for private passenger vehicles with diesel engines would be the same as that with petrol engines. Currently, passenger vehicles with diesel engines owned by individuals and companies are subject to higher road tax. Furthermore, franchise importers would be given an exemption of 100% on import duty and 50% on excise duty on hybrid CBU cars with engine capacity below 2,000cc.
Good news to diesel engine owner, but the who are the most user for diesel engine vehicles?
Recently, a news discover price increase if you pay by credit card. As soon as you swipe your credit card at the pump the price change. This news is from USA, so it might be happening in your place too.. So becareful next time when using your credit card to pay for the fuel.. ALWAYS check the meter and your receipt…

I decided to do some calculation of the & rebates to my yearly consumption.
My weekly fuel expense for my Honda Wave : RM15.00 or RM2.15 @7 days
Total a month fuel expense (@ 30days) : RM64.29
Yearly fuel expense (@12 months) : RM 771.43
% Rebate per year : (150/771.43) x 100 = 19.4%
My previous (before fuel cost increase)
Monthly expense : RM40.00
Yearly expense : RM480.00
Extra expense from previous fuel cost : RM771.43 – RM480.00 = 291.43
After taking the RM150.00 from the rebates I still have to bare the fuel expense cost about RM141.43 per year. That is about RM12.00 per months…
